About the Journal

The Tropical Journal of Chemistry (TJC) is the official scientific publication of the Materials, Drug Discovery, Environmental, and Sustainable Chemistry Group (MADESC Research Group) at Benson Idahosa University. The journal is published quarterly and available in printed and electronic formats. The Tropical Journal of Chemistry (TJC) is a peer-reviewed, open-access international journal dedicated to advancing the field of chemistry through disseminating high-quality research. The journal welcomes submissions from scholars and experts worldwide for possible publication.

TJC provides a platform for research addressing a wide range of fundamental and applied chemistry topics. The scope of the journal includes, but is not limited to:

  • Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry: Research on naturally occurring compounds, including their isolation, characterization, synthesis, and experimental biosynthesis.
  • Environmental Chemistry and Sustainability: Studies on pollution monitoring, green chemistry, climate change mitigation, waste management, and sustainable resource utilization.
  • Biological and Biomedical Applications: Biological evaluation of crude extracts, pharmacokinetics, toxicological studies, and the bioavailability of natural substances.
  • Ethnomedicine and Traditional Medicine: Research on phytochemicals, ethnopharmacology, complementary medicine, and therapeutic applications.
  • Biotechnology and Bioengineering: Development and applications of natural products derived from plants, microbes, and animals.
  • Analytical Chemistry and Instrumentation: Innovations in spectroscopy, chromatography, mass spectrometry, and the development of low-cost diagnostic tools for resource-limited settings.
  • Chemistry-Biology Interface: Screening of natural products for biological activity against health targets and diseases.
  • Materials Chemistry and Nanotechnology: Research on nanomaterials, polymers, smart materials, and energy materials for environmental and industrial applications.
  • Food and Agricultural Chemistry: Studies on food composition, safety, agrochemicals, and post-harvest technology.
  • Physical and Theoretical Chemistry: Computational chemistry, reaction mechanisms, molecular dynamics, and surface chemistry.
  • Emerging Areas: Forensic chemistry, ionic liquids, green solvents, paper-based microfluidics, and AI-driven predictive modeling.

TJC particularly encourages research addressing challenges in tropical and resource-limited settings, promoting practical applications that foster sustainable development.
